Music at St. Andrew and St. Mark
Sing a Joyful Noise
At St. Andrew and St. Mark we love to sing and have a long tradition of choral music. Our choir helps us to follow Augustine of Hippo's insight: "one who sings, prays twice." Come pray and sing a joyful noise with us; we are always keen to recruit new singers!
Many people think (in error!) that they cannot sing. Everyone has his or her own voice; let us help you find yours to add to our choral ensemble. Singers are needed in all sections, soprano, alto, tenor and baritone/bass.
Choir Rehearsal - Thursdays 7pm - September - June
Bill Hutton has been Director of Music for the Parish of St. Andrew and St. Mark since November 1995. As organist and choirmaster he is responsible for weekly choral eucharists and special festival services.
Bill is also the chapel organist for the Mount Royal Funeral Complex, where he plays a newly installed mechanical-action organ. He is on call to play for services throughout the city and enjoys the opportunity to experience the great variety of Montreal churches and organs. He is a music copyist and has typeset and produced several commissioned works over the years.
Our pipe organ was recently upgraded, adding four stops and other significant improvements to an already excellent instrument.
The organ was built and installed in 1959 by Casavant Frères, which was established in 1879 and is the oldest continuous name in North American organ building.
The restoration was done by Orgues Létourneau, of St. Hyacinthe.
